About Seitz Eye Care
Dr. Jack Seitz came to Vernal and was employed by Daynes Optical in October of 1960. He purchased the practice in the mid-60s. The office was located on the west side of the Hotel Vernal building for several years. In the late 60s a new building was built at 185 North Vernal Ave. Dr. Seitz sold the practice to his two sons in the early 90s, Dr. Gordon, Dr. Neldon and his son in-law Tod Tesar. Dr. Jack worked for them until 2002. Since then and always Seitz Eye Care is here for your eye care needs.
Dr. Gordon A. Seitz, O.D.
Dr. Gordon Seitz grew up in Vernal, Utah and graduated from Uintah High School where he was the chess club captain. He went on to attend the University of Utah and studied pre-optometry before serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Hamberg, Germany. After returning home, he went on to study at the Southern California College of Optometry where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree plus Doctorate in Optometry. Dr. Seitz then returned to Vernal in 1987 to practice with his father, Dr. Jack Seitz. He has served in the community with the Boy Scouts, the City Planning and Zoning Commission, and various other volunteer groups. He enjoys working with individuals with special needs including coaching Special Olympics teams. Dr. Gordon also enjoys the outdoors and spending time with his family. He is married to Jill Smith Seitz and they have four children.
Dr. Neldon S. Seitz, O.D.
Dr. Neldon Seitz was also born and raised in Vernal, Utah. While attending Uintah High School he participated in sports. After graduating, Dr. Ned attended the University of Utah for a year then served in the Arcadia California Mission speaking Spanish. Upon completion of his mission he decided to attend Southern Utah University where he met his wife Dawna Nielson. Next, he attended the Southern California College of Optometry and graduated in 1992. Dr. Seitz then took his family to do a residency at Tuscaloosa Alabama VA hospital with an emphasis in ocular disease. He came back in 1993 to join his father and brother at Seitz Eye Care in Vernal where they have raised six children. Dr. Seitz enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren and doing outdoor activities. He will be taking a three year leave of absence to serve as President of the Dallas East Mission starting July 1, 2020.
Dr. Bret J. Butterfield, O.D.
Dr. Butterfield was born and raised in Riverton, Utah where he graduated from Riverton High School in 2004. He received his Associates degree in Science from Salt Lake Community College and then attended Utah State University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry. Dr. Butterfield then went on to attend Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Doctorate in Optometry in 2014. He interned at Child & Family Eye Care Center where the focus was on children’s vision and vision therapy. Another internship was completed at the Salt Lake City Veteran’s Hospital. He has been working at Seitz Eye Care since July 2014. Some of his professional interests are in primary eye care, vision therapy, sports vision, contact lenses, medical eye conditions, and pediatric eye care. Dr. Butterfield is married to BreeAnn Howell and they have two boys and one daughter.
Tod S. Tesar, FNAO
Board Certified Optician
Tod Tesar is a Board Certified Optician, Office Manager, and part owner of Seitz Eye Care. He graduated from the Optician Program from Southern California College of Optometry. Tod also received his Bachelor’s Degree from Utah State University, and Master’s Degree from Duquesne University. He has been with Seitz Eye Care since 1979. Tod is married to Cathy Seitz and they have three children, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
